Campania Express or Circumvesuviana?

Both use the Naples to Sorrento railway. The better choice depends on whether comfort or flexibility matters more.

Choose Campania Express for certainty

It is designed for visitors and includes a reserved seat, air conditioning and EAV assistance at the station and on board.

Choose regular L1 for flexibility

The regular Circumvesuviana timetable offers more departure choices and serves more local journeys, but it does not include the Campania Express reserved-seat service.

Platform 3

EAV lists platform 3 for Campania Express departures from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi and Porta Nolana.

Reserved seating

Online Campania Express purchase includes a guaranteed reserved seat on the booked service.

Children aged 6 and under

EAV says children up to age 6 travel free without their own reserved seat.

Flexible return and stops

The return can be on a different date. Hop-on/hop-off is allowed, but a reserved seat is not guaranteed after reboarding.

Accessibility needs advance planning

EAV asks travellers with motor disabilities leaving Naples to use Napoli Porta Nolana. Napoli Garibaldi, Ercolano and Sant'Agnello are listed as inaccessible. Castellammare and Pompei Villa dei Misteri are accessible only toward Sorrento.

Arriving in Sorrento

Sorrento station is in the town centre. Continue on foot, by local bus or by taxi. Ferries leave from Marina Piccola rather than the railway station, so allow time for the transfer.

For Pompeii or Herculaneum, leave at the named archaeological-site station shown in the stop sequence rather than travelling to Sorrento first.

Naples to Sorrento train questions

Is there a direct train from Naples to Sorrento?

Yes. Campania Express runs directly from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi to Sorrento with seven intermediate stops. You do not need to change trains.

How long does Campania Express take?

The current outbound timetable allows 1 hour 9 minutes from Napoli Piazza Garibaldi to Sorrento. Return journeys are scheduled for 1 hour 15 minutes.

How often does Campania Express run?

The timetable valid from 28 March 2026 lists four departures from Naples and four return services from Sorrento each day. Check EAV before travelling for changes.

Does Campania Express stop at Pompeii?

Yes. It stops at Pompei Scavi Villa dei Misteri, the station used for the archaeological park, between Ercolano Scavi and Castellammare di Stabia.

Is a seat reserved on Campania Express?

EAV says online Campania Express booking includes a guaranteed reserved seat. If you leave the train and continue later using the hop-on/hop-off option, a seat is not guaranteed on the intermediate leg.

Does Campania Express run on Sundays?

EAV describes the current eight services as daily. Always check the official timetable for your exact travel date, especially around engineering work or service changes.

Where does Campania Express leave from in Naples?

At Napoli Piazza Garibaldi, EAV lists platform 3. The station is underground within the wider Napoli Centrale and Piazza Garibaldi transport complex.

Is Napoli Piazza Garibaldi accessible?

EAV says Napoli Garibaldi is not accessible and asks travellers with motor disabilities leaving Naples to use Napoli Porta Nolana. Review EAV accessibility information before travel.
